The stripped-down version of Windows is only supplied "on request", and I believe that almost no one has requested it to be installed. The European Commission asked for it, not the European markets.
There is only one English version of Windows and Office shipped everywhere. Prices differ country to country. Vista pricing has not been announced, and in any case, is not going to address your issue until its release for consumer markets in early 2007.
The "N" version of XP is officially available at the same price as the complete version. I have yet to see one "N" box on the shelves (who in their right mind would want to get a crippled version if there's no savings in it?) <g> There's no obvious reason to think things will be different with Vista. However, if you live in Europe you very likely will not get the American version. As with XP, you will get the "International English" version. The only visible difference is the text of the EULA. I believe the encryption algorithm is also slightly different (but compatible), mostly for copyright reasons. -- Pierre Szwarc Paris, France PGP key ID 0x75B5779B ------------------------------------------------ Multitasking: Reading in the bathroom ! ------------------------------------------------

Actually, you still have a choice, you can still purchase the non N version of Windows XP today with Media Player bundled. Steve Ballmer (Microsoft CEO) recently made a statement that Windows Vista will probably cost the same as current versions of Windows XP. -- -- Andre Windows Connected | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta

Upgrades are said to be cheaper - that's just internal rumour, but I can see what they mean. As long as you have a genuine copy of XP, it'll upgrade without a problem.
